Richard Nelson
Elder
I grew up in Steamboat Springs, attending a Lutheran Church. I attended CSU graduating in ’72 with a degree in Forest Watershed Management and was then drafted a month later. I went into the US Army and was in the Honor Guard in Washington D.C. It was during this time that God wooed me as I searched for the purpose of life and to heal my loneliness (defined as not connecting with people and/or God).
It was in Steamboat when I providentially went back to this Lutheran Church that I heard of a small group Bible Study. It was there my journey of 5 years brought me into a relationship with Jesus. Finding my life purpose in knowing and following Jesus and new-found relationships in the body of Christ that I knew for real Jesus exists.
Shortly afterwards I moved to Arkansas to be a part of a church’s internship to grow in faith and ministry skills. I met and married Karen in ’79, attended Dallas Theological Seminary graduating in ’85.
For the next 10 years I was part of the start up of Student Mobilization reaching students on college campuses. Part of this time we lived in the Ukraine to start a college ministry there. In ’96 we moved to Northwest Arkansas to be on staff of Fellowship Bible Church of NWAR. I was the missions pastor for about 20 years.
We moved to Fort Collins in 2015 to move into the 4th quarter of life doing pastoral mentoring, discipleship, assisting in church planting and global outreach.
I have been married to Karen for 40 yrs. We have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren.
